Series outlines ways to better serve students

 UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS

University employees stationed on the front lines of student interaction can attend a free training series aimed at improving service to and retention of students.

The two-part workshop series, "Serving Students: Best Practices for Retaining Satisfied Students," is offered Feb. 16 and March 16 in the Nebraska Union and Feb. 23 and March 21 in the East Union.

Tom Workman, assistant director of Student Involvement, will conduct the workshops.

Training will focus on skill development, communication strategies and developing specific student-focused service plans for departments.

The first workshop will be skill based and educational. Participants will be given an assignment to develop a customer service plan for their department.

In the second workshop, additional instruction will be presented and customer service plans will be discussed in small group sessions.

Supervisors are encouraged to attend with their staff members so skill development can be reinforced and customer service plans can be developed within departments.

A maximum of 500 employees may attend the free workshops, which are coordinated by Rita Kean, dean of Undergraduate Studies and Human Resources.

Registration is available through SLUGO or by contacting Human Resources at 472-3101. The registration deadline is Feb. 10.
