Collaboration brings 'The Train' to Lied April 11

"The Train," a collaboration between the Angels Theatre Company and the Third Chair Chamber Players opens April 11 for a five-day run at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

The performances are at 7:30 p.m. April 11-14, and at 7 p.m. April 15 in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theater. "The Train" will also be performed in Omaha, Fremont and Kearney as part of the Lied Center's Arts Across Nebraska initiative.

"The Train" is a chamber theatre production about an elderly Jewish couple living with their memories of horror and sorrow after surviving the Holocaust. Both the elderly Clara and David and their younger selves are shown simultaneously on a split stage, giving audiences a glimpse into the couple's present and past.

The story, about survival and memory, was written by Carl Slatboom, and translated by Lou Leviticus of Lincoln, who also serves as the narrator. The production is directed by Judith Hart.

Tickets for this performance are $25. UNL students with a valid NCard and youth 18 and younger may purchase tickets for half price.

Composer Darleen Mitchell will offer a free, open to the public discussion from 4 to 5 p.m. April 6 in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room. Mitchell's "Music of Remembrance" was created for "The Train." The event includes refreshments.
