'Masterworks of Masons' concert is April 14

Cotner Lodge No. 297 is sponsoring the inaugural "Masterworks of Masons" concert at 7:30 p.m. April 14 at the Lincoln Scottish Rite Temple, 332 Centennial Mall South.

The concert will feature the UNL Symphonic Band, under the direction of senior lecturer Tony Falcone. The concert will include solos from Mark Clinton, associate professor of piano, and Diane Barger, associate professor of clarinet.

"Lincoln has never witnessed such a diverse group of internationally known musicians to honor the music of such Masons as Mozart, Mendelssohn, Weber, Gershwin and Sousa," said Patrick Barger, Worshipful Master for the Cotner Lodge.

The idea for the concert came from Cotner Past Master and Diane Barger's father, Robert Cawein. Cawein died five days before his installation in 2004. The Bargers and Clinton continued to develop the concept.

Tickets are $20 adults, $15 for seniors and $10 for students and are available online at www.masterworksofmasons.com or by calling 1-866-272-2631.

The UNL Symphonic Band is the UNL band program's top symphonic ensemble.

Diane Barger is a member of the Moran Woodwind Quintet at UNL. She also serves as principal clarinet with the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra and is treasurer of the International Clarinet Association.

Clinton is an internationally known piano soloist, who has garnered prizes at prestigious international competitions.
