Medical premiums unchanged for full-time employees
For the second consecutive year, premiums for medical insurance in 2008 for full-time UNL faculty and staff will not increase - and in some cases will decrease.

Art and a Movie
Diana Breshears, a graduate student and instructor in communication studies, examines the Art-o-Mat Nov. 9 in the lobby of the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. The vending machine is a retired cigarette dispenser converted to vend art. The Art-o-Mat machines were created by Clark Whittington and more than 90 machines are on display internationally. Items in the machine were created by artists from around the world. Whittington discussed the community art project with the Art in Community Class taught by Sandra Williams, associate professor in art and art history. Williams obtained a grant from the Woods Foundation to bring the machine to campus. The Art-o-Mat will be at the Ross through March. Photo by Troy Fedderson/University Communications.

$1.28M grant powers virus ed program
A new educational program based at UNL and funded by the National Institutes of Health will teach young people and their families the basics of virology.

"The Great World of Sound" opens Nov. 16 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center. The film addresses the American Idol culture - a growing trend of people looking for a shortcut to fame and others who promise to pave an easy path.

Lied hosts Gizmo Guys Nov. 29
Comedy jugglers the Gizmo Guys will bring their high-flying show at 7 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. The performance is part of LiedFamFest, a family-friendly series, that includes special events that begin at 5:30 p.m.

Woodwind quintet plays Kansas City
UNL's Liquid Velvet Woodwind Quintet will give two free performances in the Kansas City metropolitan area Nov. 17-18.

Art students to open studios to public Nov. 16
Visual Artists in Practice, a group of graduate fine arts students, will host an open studio night, 6 to 9 p.m. Nov. 16.

VisionMaker Film Festival plays the Ross
Native American filmmakers Chris Eyre, Sterlin Harjo, Bennie Klain, Leighton Peterson, and J. Carlos Peinado will take part in the VisionMaker Film Festival, Nov. 16-29 at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

'Free at 6' to feature Kara Leigh Jazz Combo
Lincoln native Kara Leigh and her jazz combo will take the stage of the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 6 p.m., Nov. 20. The performance, part of the Lied Center's Free at 6 series, is free and open to the public.
