Flat Stanley jumps from books to stage

For more than 40 years, Jeff Brown's books featuring the adventures of Stanley Lambchop have delighted young readers worldwide. Now, Stanley makes the jump to stage in "The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley," playing at 6 p.m. Feb. 16 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

The performance is part of the Lied's Family Series. Beginning at 4:30 p.m., the Lied will offer a family-friendly party open to all ticket holders. The event will include entertainment, hands-on activities, free food and drinks.

In the musical, Stanley wakes up one morning to find that he as been flattened by a bulletin board falling on him while he slept. And he's not just flat - he's really flat. At first it's not so bad; he can slide under doors, fly like a kite, and he's the best in his class at hide-and-seek. But he decides that he has got to do something, so he puts himself in an envelope and travels the world as a human letter.

Stanley is stamped, posted and cancelled from South Africa to China and beyond. In each stop, Stanley meets new friends, learns about different cultures through song and dance, and moves closer to his goal of being a 3-dimensional boy once more.

Tickets to the performance are $14. UNL students with a valid NCard, and youth age 18 and younger, may purchase tickets for half price. For more information, go online to www.liedcenter.org or call 472-4747.
