Sheldon hosts poetry contest on March 8

The Nebraska Statewide Finals for Poetry Out Loud, a national poetry recitation contest, are 1 to 5 p.m. March 8 at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery Auditorium.

The Poetry Out Loud: National Recitation Contest was created by a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation, the nation's largest literary non-profit. These groups collaborated with the Nebraska Arts Council and other state arts agencies to develop this nationwide event for youth.

Each student in the competition will recite two poems in the initial round. Following an evaluation by a panel of judges, five finalists will be selected to recite one last poem prior to the selection of the statewide winner.
