Guys and Dolls opens April 8

The Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts, the School of Music, the Department of Theatre Arts and the Lied Center for Performing Arts will present Guys and Dolls at 7:30 p.m. April 8 and 9, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. April 10 in the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Guys and Dolls is based on a short story, “The Idyll of Miss Sarah Brown,” and characters by Damon Runyon. It revolves around notorious gambler Nathan Detroit who bets fellow gambler Sky Masterson that he can’t make the next girl he sees fall in love with him. That next girl is Miss Sarah Brown, a pure-at-heart Salvation Army-type reformer.

Robin J. McKercher, former Lincoln Community Playhouse artistic director, will direct and be scenic designer for this production. McKercher received his master of fine arts degree in directing from UNL and has directed and done scenery design for more than 70 productions.

Tickets are $30, $25 and $20; tickets are half-price for students. Call the Lied Center box office for tickets, 472-4747.
