School offers lessons on organ, piano
The UNL School of Music offers two programs for any adult who's wanted to learn to play the organ or wished he'd taken piano lessons.
The school will again offer lessons through the Church Organist Training Program, which is open to organists or those who want to learn to play. Teachers of the course have degrees in organ performance and will teach the noncredit class in Lincoln and Stromsburg, Neb. Students will receive 15 private half-hour lessons and can earn a certificate of achievement. Lessons begin the week of Aug. 23. For information, call Michele Deaton at 472-6861.
The Community Piano Experience will offer two-hour group piano classes for 11 weeks. Adults who have never taken piano lessons or who have forgotten lessons are welcome in a beginning class on Tuesday nights, while those with basic skills and note reading ability can take the intermediate class on Thursdays. Both classes begin the week of Sept. 7 and end Nov. 30, with the weeks of Oct. 18 and Nov. 23 off. The classes are taught by UNL graduate students and will be in room 23-2 of the Westbrook Music Building.
The piano class costs $175. For information, call Julia Andrews at 472-2032 or e-mail jandrews@bigred.unl.edu.
