Book overflows with details of the Great Plains
The region known as the Great Plains is the Rodney Dangerfield of the United States: It doesn't get any respect. That may change with the publishing of a ground-breaking reference book, the Encyclopedia of the Great Plains, said David Wishart, the book's editor and chair of the Department of Anthropology and Geography at UNL.

NU enrollment down slightly in 2004
Enrollment at the University of Nebraska for fall 2004 dropped 2 percent from 2003 figures, according to numbers released Sept. 15 by NU central administration. Total enrollment is 45,116 at UNL, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, the University of Nebraska at Kearney and the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
First mid-semester program is Sept. 28-29
A first-ever program, "Mid-Semester: Checking It Out!" on Sept. 28-29, will give new UNL students a chance to consider their academic progress and learn tips from faculty and other students at an organized on-campus event.

Wall Celebrates Athletic, Academic Honors
Volleyball Olympian and 2001 UNL graduate Nancy Metcalf cuts the ribbon during the unveiling of the athletic department's West Stadium Hall of Distinction on Sept. 2. The hall honors every Husker letter-winner who has graduated and those who have earned national academic honors.
A Piece of University History
Times have certainly changed: Once upon a time, hand-written letters were the only way for NU students to keep in touch with parents and friends back home. Today, in honor of Parents Weekend, we print a portion of a letter by G.P. Cather sent from NU to his family in 1904 or 1905.

Japanese woodblock prints coming to Lentz Center
The Lentz Center for Asian Culture will present "Japanese Woodblock Prints from the 19th and 20th Centuries" from Oct. 1 through Jan. 30. A reception will be from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 8. It is free and open to the public.

Print Council conference opens Oct. 6
"Printmaking Relevance/Resonance," the biennial conference of the Mid-America Print Council, will be hosted by UNL Oct. 6-9.
Guest artists perform Oct. 3

Dance company to jazz up Lied
The River North Chicago Dance Company is known to entertain and educate audiences through its accessible dance. The company will bring its jazz-based performance to the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 29. The program will include pieces choreographed to the works of Richard Rodgers, Etta James and others.
Egg artwork now on display
The contestants in the annual egg-decorating contest sponsored by the Poultry and Egg Division of the Nebraska Department of Agriculture are on display now through Oct. 4 at the University of Nebraska State Museum. The public can view the eggs and vote for their favorite. The winning egg will be on display at the White House.
