Emmylou Harris to share distinct style Nov. 10

A vocalist who defies musical labels, Emmylou Harris has earned a place in music history with her storied career and 11 Grammy Awards. Harris will perform at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 10 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts. This concert was originally scheduled for Nov. 16.

Emmylou Harris and opening performer Buddy Miller will take the stage Nov. 10 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Opening for Emmylou Harris will be Buddy Miller, a singer/guitar player whose 2001 album Buddy and Julie Miller was a Grammy nominee for Best Contemporary Folk Album.

Harris has collaborated with a list of musical greats that includes Elvis Costello, Johnny Cash, Lucinda Williams, Bob Dylan, Lyle Lovett, Dave Matthews and Willie Nelson, to name a few. Known for her distinctive voice and delivery, it was not until her 2000 album, Red Dirt Girl, that Harris revealed her songwriting skills. The effort earned Harris one of her 11 Grammy Awards and led to more self-penned tracks on her 2003 follow-up, Stumble Into Grace. A longtime social activist, Harris has lent her voice to many causes including animal rights and the Campaign for a Landmine Free World.

Miller is a "jack of all trades" in the music world. His songs have been covered by artists such as Lee Ann Womack, Brooks & Dunn, and the Dixie Chicks. He is also a noted guitar player and singer who has backed up artists such as Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams and Trisha Yearwood. Miller was a member of Harris' band for eight years.

L. Kent Wolgamott, entertainment reporter for the Lincoln Journal Star, will give a lecture 30 minutes before this performance in the Lied's Steinhart Room.

Tickets for this performance are $42/$37/$32; tickets are half-price for UNL students and those 18 and younger. Call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for ticket availability. New tickets were not issued for those who purchased tickets for this concert's original performance date. Those who bought tickets for the Nov. 16 date and are unable to attend the rescheduled performance may bring those tickets to the Lied Center ticket office by Nov. 8 to exchange them for another performance at the Lied this season.
