Cowboy Christmas is Nov. 30
Michael Martin Murphey, "the singing cowboy poet," will bring a country feel to the holidays with A Cowboy Christmas at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
Murphey's three-decade country music career has included chart-topping hits such as "What's Forever For?" and "A Long Line of Love." One of his most successful hits is " Wildfire," which speaks of a phantom horse riding during a "cold Nebraska night." Murphey's music often includes such issues such as the destruction of Native American culture, the extinction of the cowboy life and the conservation of the environment. His songs have been recorded by artists including John Denver and Lyle Lovett.
Murphey began his "Cowboy Christmas" concerts in 1987, and the tour now spans 40 cities each holiday season and has led to three Cowboy Christmas albums and a DVD.
Steve Albertsen, program director and on-air host with Froggy 98 radio, will give a talk 30 minutes before curtain in the Lied's Steinhart Room.
Tickets for this performance are $35/$30/$25; tickets are half-price for UNL students and those 18 and younger. Call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 or visit the Lied Center Web site for ticket information.
