Prairie Fire

Lincoln firefighters quashed a prairie fire on East Campus March 17. The fire, of unknown origin, blackened about 2/3 of the prairie northeast of C.Y. Thompson Library. Some plant identification signs were destroyed. Landscape Services experts expect the prairie to grow back. The only loss is that students in prairie management classes will be unable to do the annual controlled burn of the prairie this spring. Photo by Brett Hampton
