French films featured at Mary Riepma Ross

In "Après Vous," opening at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center on Sept. 30, two of France's most celebrated actors, Daniel Auteuil and José Garcia, team up in a romantic comedy from director Pierre Salvadori that ponders if being a good samaratin is actually a bad thing.

"Après Vous" is showing at the Ross Sept. 30 through Oct. 13. Après Vous is rated R, for language.

Antoine (Auteuil) is the kind of guy who is always helping everyone. Then one night on his way to meet his girlfriend, he cuts through the park to save time and commits the ultimate good deed by savings a man's life. And boy will he be sorry.

Set in the most romantic city in the world, where the food is delicious and passions run deep, fate is about to step in and create an unlikely bond between two men. One will snatch the other from the brink of destruction then nearly push him toward it, and the other will take a surprising leap of faith that only a true friend can make.

Director Jacques Audiard and screenwriter Tonino Benacquista, who shared a 2002 Cesar Award for Best Original Screenplay for "Read My Lips," team up in "The Beat That My Heart Skipped," a psychological drama set in the streets of Paris, opening at the Ross on Sept. 30.

"The Beat That My Heart Skipped" (not rated) is showing through Oct. 13.

The film is based on James Toback's cult favorite "Fingers," in which Harvey Keitel played a tortured soul trapped between his love of the piano and his involvement with the mob. In this remake, Romain Duris stars as Tom, who works with two scheming real estate men. While struggling to regain his mastery of the piano - which he gave up after his mother's death - Tom is called upon by his partners to participate in shady deals.
