Degree completion program students to start in the fall

 BY KIM HACHIYA, UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS

UNL has also entered into a degree completion program with Xi'an Jiaotong University under which Chinese students will take their first two years at Xi'an Jiaotong and then transfer to UNL to complete their degrees. Eventually, as many as 400 Xi'an Jiaotong students could earn degrees annually from UNL. The first group enters this fall.

David Lou said China's huge population and limited higher educational experiences mean many people cannot attend college. UNL has the capacity to educate more students, and the new program is a way to do that.

"This opens doors to Chinese students to a first-rate education at UNL," Lou said. "It's very attractive to Chinese companies to hire students with degrees from UNL. And it's good for UNL because our graduates will work with Chinese companies in one way or another and the exposure to Chinese people is helpful."

Lou said there are plans for UNL students to study in China.
