Panel to discuss being a professional artist in the Midwest

Six award-winning Nebraska artists discuss the practical side of working as professional artists in the Midwest.

The panel discussion, "Working as an Artist in Nebraska," is 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 6 at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery.

Panelists will include UNL's Gerald Shapiro (English), Mary K. Stillwell (English) and Tyler Goodrich White (School of Music). Other panelists include Ann Gradwohl, Tim Guthrie and Troy Muller.

Each panelist is an award-winning professional artist who will share experiences working in their particular area.

The group will discuss working as a professional artist in Nebraska. The program will cover the arts industry, how successful professional artists manage their careers, and what the real world is like. A question and answer session will follow the discussion.

The panel will be moderated by J.D. Hutton, artist services and communications manager for the Nebraska Arts Council.

The event is free and open to the public.
