'Free at 6' to feature Kara Leigh Jazz Combo

Lincoln native Kara Leigh and her jazz combo will take the stage of the Lied Center for Performing Arts at 6 p.m., Nov. 20. The performance, part of the Lied Center's Free at 6 series, is free and open to the public.

Leigh, a vocalist and violinist, has been playing together with pianist Julia Andrews for three years. Fueled by diverse musical backgrounds, Leigh and Andrews blend classical, blues, Latin, funk, and gospel elements into their jazz palette. Their repertoire includes songs from the Great American Songbook, instrumental jazz standards, and new arrangements of pop and classical art songs. Dedicated to introducing jazz to new generations, Leigh and Andrews teach at colleges in the Midwest. The Kara Leigh Jazz Combo also includes Art Fowler on guitar and Brian Daw on bass.

Free at 6 was created to recognize and celebrate the rich range of artistic talent in the community and to open the doors of the Lied Center to a wider audience. Free at 6 programs, 45 minutes in length, give local artists a venue for their art while encouraging the participation of new audiences.
