Ross display showcases vintage Disney posters

Vintage posters from feature-length, classic-animated films released by Walt Disney Productions are on exhibit in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center lobby.

The exhibit - which includes original works from "Dumbo," "Sleeping Beauty," "The Lady and the Tramp" and "Alice in Wonderland" - is curated by Norman Geske, director emeritus of the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery. The exhibition is the continuation of a year-long exhibit of posters or one-sheets from the Jensen Collection.

The display is changed approximately every four months, providing an in-depth look at the collection, which includes vintage items from the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s collected by Jerry Jensen, who served as a board member of the Friends of the Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater.

The Jensen Cinema 16 Collection was donated to the Ross, through the University Foundation, for its use and preservation. The collection contains posters from more than 1,100 movies.

The collection also includes press kits from 592 movies, 434 lobby cards and sets of stills from 559 movies.

Jensen also donated over 800 16mm format feature length films ranging from the silent days to the mid 1980s as well as many short subjects and cartoons to the Ross. The films, shorts and cartoons have been utilized for "Movies on the Green," a free, open to the public outdoor screening series held in the summer. UNL's Film Studies Program has also used the collection.
