Ashanti African Roots Band to play Free at 6

The Ashanti African Roots Band will present a "Free at 6" concert at 6 p.m. Feb. 23 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Formed by Michael Opoku, Ashanti African Roots Band offers a fast-paced rhythmic mix of African music, drumming and dancing with modern reggae, soul and rock.

Michael Opoku is originally from Accra, the capital city of Ghana in west Africa. He has spent a great deal of his life involved in sharing African culture and art with students around the world

The 45-minute "Free at 6" performances are free and open to the public.
