The Cypress String Quartet will perform Nov. 4 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts and for students in Minden, Omaha, Beatrice, Fremont, Broken Bow and Burwell.

The program will include String Quartet in G Major (Op. 33, No. 5) by Haydn, Two Sketches for String Quartet by Griffes, and Quartet in C Major (Op. 59, No. 3) by Beethoven. Cypress String Quartet will also perform a new piece, String Quartet No. 2 by American composer Dan Coleman. The piece was co-commissioned by the Lied Center of Kansas, the Lied Center for Performing Arts and the Cypress Performing Arts Association to recognize the 150th anniversary of the Kansas-Nebraska Act.

The Cypress String Quartet features members Cecily Ward, violin; Tom Stone, violin; Ethan Filner, viola; and Jennifer Kloetzel, cello. They have been recognized for their programming, which melds classic works with pieces by contemporary composers, as well as a dedication to outreach and education. In addition to this performance, the quartet will perform and conduct student workshops throughout the state as part of the Lied's Arts Across Nebraska program. The quartet will visit Minden, Omaha, Beatrice, Fremont, Broken Bow and Burwell.

Karen Becker, associate professor with the School of Music, will give a lecture 30 minutes before the performance.

Tickets for this performance are $32; UNL students and those 18 and younger may buy tickets for half price. Call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for tickets.
