For more than a century, the Warsaw Philharmonic has represented Poland as its national orchestra. The company has completed more than 100 tours on five continents, performing in the major concert halls of the world. Its last Lied Center performance was in 1997. The Warsaw Philharmonic performs more than 80 symphony concerts and more than 50 chamber concerts each year, as well as keeping an extensive recording schedule. The orchestra was featured on the soundtrack of the 2002 movie The Pianist, which earned the Warsaw Philharmonic a No. 2 spot on Billboard's classical album list.

In 2001, Olga Kern became the first woman in more than 30 years to win the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition. She was awarded two years of international concert engagements, which included a Lied Center performance in April 2002. Since then, Kern has performed around the world and has appeared as a soloist with the Bolshoi Theater, Moscow Philharmonic, St. Petersburg Symphony, La Scala Philharmonic and others.

Larry Lusk, former dean of the Hixson-Lied College of Fine and Performing Arts and emeritus professor of piano, will give a lecture 30 minutes before the performance in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room.

Tickets are $49/$44/$39; UNL students and those 18 and younger may buy tickets for half price. Call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for tickets.
