Louise Pound
This cartoon of Louise Pound, drawn by Herbert Johnson, was featured in the April 1901 edition of the Arrowhead, a student publication printed between 1899-1902.
Pound's athletic prowess was recently acknowledged when she was selected No. 64 in the Omaha World-Herald's Top 100 athletes of Nebraska. Better known for her work in the NU Department of English, Pound competed in tennis, golf, cycling, ice skating and basketball.
From 1901 to 1927, Pound was ranked as the top woman golfer in Lincoln and won the first state women's tournament in 1916.
Pound was the women's state tennis singles champion in 1891 and 1892, the same years she won the NU men's singles and doubles titles.
