Plains Song Review reading is April 20

UNL's Center for Great Plains Studies will celebrate the publication of Volume 8 of Plains Song Review with a reading and reception 6:30 p.m. April 20 in the Great Plains Art Museum.

The evening will feature readings by authors whose work is published in this new issue. Plains Song Review publishes poetry, prose, photographs and artwork by undergraduate students from the University of Nebraska's campuses as well as other writers and artists from Nebraska and surrounding Plains states.

"At the reading, we will present the Christine Pappas Award for best work by an undergraduate student, and we will have the second annual exhibit of photographs from the journal," said Mary Kate McCarney, editor of Plains Song Review.

McCarney, who is an award-winning poet and a senior at UNL majoring in English and geology, headed a student editorial board responsible for reviewing and selecting the final entries from more than 400 submissions. Charles Braithwaite, editor of Great Plains Quarterly, served as consulting editor.

Plains Song Review, founded in 1999 by Christine Pappas, is an interdisciplinary literary journal that explores a sense of place on the Great Plains through the writings, photography, and artwork of emerging and established writers and artists.

The reading is free and open to the public. For more information, call 472-3082.
