  Chancellor's speech, awards ceremony, picnic all Sept. 7

Campus readies for State of U, service awards

 UNIVERSITY COMMUNICATIONS

UNL Chancellor Harvey Perlman will deliver his annual State of the University address beginning at 11 a.m. Sept. 7 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

Perlman will discuss the successes of the past year and the challenges and opportunities offered by the 2006-07 academic year.

Special guest Paul Barnes, associate professor of piano, will provide a musical presentation. The address is free and open to the public and will be broadcast live on the UNL Web site (www.unl.edu), Lincoln Time Warner cable Channel 21, NebSat 107, KRNU Radio (90.3 FM) and Campus Channel 4.

The address will be preceded by the Employee Service Award recognition program at 10 a.m. in the Lied Center.

Immediately after the address, the all-university picnic will be held in the Lied Plaza.

Lied Center doors open at 9 a.m. for the service award ceremony. Because of the all-university picnic, 12th Street between Q and R streets and R Street from 12th to 13th street, will be closed.

Shuttle buses from East Campus to the Lied Center will depart from Agricultural Hall and the College of Law between 8:45 and 11:45 a.m. The buses will depart the Lied Center to return to Agricultural Hall and the College of Law between 12:30 and 2:30 p.m.
