Comedian to launch 'Club Carson' Oct. 12

The Lied Center for Performing Arts will open "Club Carson," to offer live performances in a new way.

The series will present six artists performing in "Club Carson," a transformed Johnny Carson Theater with cabaret-style seating and a casual, fun atmosphere. The first Club Carson date will feature comedian/actor David Mann at 7 and 9:30 p.m. Oct. 12.

The series was created to engage young professionals. And audiences will not have to buy tickets months in advance; hor d'oeuvres and beverages will be available for purchase.

"We wanted to create a series that is more closely matched to the lifestyles of contemporary audiences," said Charles Henry Bethea, executive director of the Lied Center.

Other artists in the series include: guitarist Dominic Gaudious on Nov. 29; classical guitarist Jason Vieaux on Dec. 8; the beatbox play "From Tel Aviv to Ramallah" on Feb. 15; jazz ensemble the Jeni Felming Trio on Feb. 23; and folk artists The Wailin' Jennys on April 25. All these artists are emerging in their careers and offer original performances that would otherwise not be presented in the area.

Mann's "Temporary Insanity" is the story of Clark Kent, a temp worker dealing with his position at the lowest rung of the corporate ladder. The characters Clark meets leave him amused, confused, and ultimately, used. The story speaks to anybody who has ever hated their job.

General admission tickets to Club Carson performances are $15; $10 for UNL students with a valid NCard. No season discounts will be given as the series is not part of the Lied Center's season.

For more information go online to www.clubcarson.net or call the Lied ticket office at 472-4747. Tickets will be available at the door one hour before each performance.
