Great Plains museum offers 'Journey Home' to March 26
"The Journey Home: Native American Art Show" is on exhibition through March 26 at UNL's Great Plains Art Museum.
| | ART HUNT - The shield, "Good Old Buffalo Days," by Donel E. Keeler, is included in "The Journey Home" exhibition at the Great Plains Art Museum. The exhibit is open through March 26.
| | The exhibition is the reopening of the Great Plains Art Gallery following a crisis with water on Jan. 20 that left the Hewit Place galleries closed for cleanup. No art was damaged and new carpet, trimming and walls in some areas completed the remediation.
Approximately 30 works of art showcasing the enduring creative spirit of four federally recognized tribes of Nebraska, as well as the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma, who met with the Lewis and Clark expedition, are featured in this Native American Art Exhibit. The exhibit is a component of the Nebraska Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Commission's official commemoration of "The Journey Home."
Participation in this exhibit was by invitation only through a juried process and was limited to enrolled members of the Winnebago, Omaha, Santee Sioux, Northern Ponca and Otoe-Missouria tribes.
Ernest Ricehill is curator of this exhibit. A member of the Winnebago and Omaha tribes, Ricehill is a former professional museum curator.
