Annual CASNR Week events begin April 15

BY SANDI ALSWAGER KARSTENS, IANR NEWS SERVICE

Students, alumni, faculty, staff and community members can partake in several big events as the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources celebrates CASNR Week April 15-21.

"007 - License to Succeed" is the theme for the week-long, East Campus celebration that culminates with the UNL Rodeo Club's annual rodeo and the annual Burr Hall Bull Fry.

"CASNR Week is a great opportunity for the university community to come together and celebrate the endeavors of the college," said Adam Eickhoff, a junior diversified agricultural sciences major from Falls City, and publicity chair for CASNR Week. "This year it also will be more convenient for everyone, especially returning alumni, since we are combining it with the Rodeo Club activities, Little Ak-Sar-Ben and the Burr Hall Bull Fry. With more events in one day people can do all of the activities without having to come different days."

The week will kick off by recognizing the college's accomplishments during the annual recognition banquet for students, parents and faculty from 5 to 9 p.m. April 15. The banquet will feature motivational speaker Dustin Clark of Texas.

The student-organized week also will feature Lunch on the Lawn April 17 with a community night from 5 to 7 p.m. that same day. Students and parents from Hartley, Huntington and Clinton elementary schools and the Ruth Staples Child Development Lab are welcome to attend community night, along with elementary age students of CASNR students, staff and faculty.

From 5 to 7 p.m. April 18 Love Memorial Hall will host a chili feed and from 5-8 p.m. April 19 Alpha Gamma Rho will host a barbecue.

An Earth Day celebration April 20 will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Nebraska Union, while from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. the UNL Dairy Store will celebrate its 90th anniversary and the opening of the East Campus Visitors Center.

On April 21, Little Ak-Sar-Ben will be from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Animal Science Complex and the Burr Hall Bull Fry will be from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the East Campus Mall. CASNR Week will conclude with UNL Rodeos April 20-22.

The April 21 evening rodeo performance will be dedicated to breast cancer awareness and is designated as "Tough Enough to Wear Pink" night. Contestants will be dressed in pink attire and the audience is encouraged to do the same. Pink wrist bands also will be for sale at the East Union the week before the rodeo. In addition, $2 from every ticket sale and other donations made that night will be donated to breast cancer research.

Tickets are available at the door.
