Shen Wei presents fusion of art forms, cultures April 28
A fusion of dance, theater, Chinese opera, painting and sculpture is coming to the Lied Center for Performing Arts. Shen Wei Dance Arts will showcase this new art form at 7:30 p.m. April 28 at the Lied Center.
Established at the American Dance Festival in 2000 by artistic director and choreographer Shen Wei, Shen Wei Dance Arts is dedicated to the creation of original dance. Shen Wei Dance Arts Company is based in New York, but has participated in dance performances around the world.
Founder Shen Wei began his career as a Chinese opera performer before going on to become one of the original members of Guangdong Modern Dance Company, the first modern dance company in China. In addition to his roles with the company, Shen Wei devotes himself to the visual arts as a painter, designer and filmmaker.
Susan Levine, assistant professor in the UNL School of Music, will offer a pre-performance talk 30 minutes before curtain in the Lied's Steinhart Room. Seating is limited.
Tickets are $36, $31 and $26 for the performance. UNL students with a valid NCard and youth 18 and younger may purchase tickets for half price.
