Harris plays Duke Ellington works April 19

Jazz vibraphonist and composer Stefon Harris will perform works for his new recording, "African Tarantella...Dances with Duke," at 7:30 p.m. April 19 at the Lied Center for Performing Arts.
Inspired by Duke Ellington, Harris' latest album includes re-orchestrations of three movements from Ellington's "New Orleans Suite" and two from his "Queen's Suites." The album also includes three pieces from Harris' "The Gardner Meditatons," a tribute to the Ellington's legacy.
A graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Harris received the Martin E. Segal Award from the Lincoln Center and earned back-to-back Grammy nominations for best jazz album.
Paul Haar, assistant professor in the School of Music, will give a pre-performance talk at 7 p.m. in the Lied Center's Steinhart Room. Seating is limited.
Tickets are $36 and $26. Students with a valid NCard, as well as youth age 18 and younger, may purchase tickets for half price.
