PINK AND BLUE POETRY

Pamela Mordecai reacts during a standing-room only poetry reading in the Bailey Library in Andrews Hall on Oct. 26. The Jamaican-born poet's reading, "Pink Icing and Blue Islands," drew over 80 participants and was part of the Women's and Gender Studies Colloquium Series. Seanna Oakley, assistant professor of English, was responsible for Mordecai's visit. Mordecai was among a small group of Caribbean poets that Oakley studied in her dissertation. Oakley and Mordecai became friends via the Internet and the two first met face to face Oct. 25. During her three-day visit (Oct. 25-27), Mordecai met with students, faculty and the public.
