Exhibit celebrates Cather publications

Willa Cather's Pulitzer Prize winning work, "One of Ours," is at the center of a new University Archives and Special Collections exhibit on display in Love Library through Dec. 31. The book is the latest edition in a series of Willa Cather scholarly editions published by the University of Nebraska Press.

The display, curated by history undergraduate Sarah Dieter, includes letters and photographs from the George Cather Ray Collection as well as background and supplementary information documenting World War I. The letters were written by G.P. Cather, Willa Cather's cousin, who served in World War I and died on a battlefield in France in 1918. He served as her inspiration for Claude Wheeler, the main character in "One of Ours."

The materials that document World War I are taken from numerous U.S. Military History collections housed in the Archives and include diaries, letters, and photographs of American and British troops in France, along with a collection of artistic French medals. There are also illustrations of different people who contributed to the war effort, a recruiting poster, and other examples of propaganda used by the Allies.

The exhibit is located in a both the Archives office (Love Library, room 29) and the hallway outside the office. For more information, call 472-2531.
