Eckert, 'Horizon' return Nov. 9 to Lied Center

Renowned singer, composer, director, and performance artist Rinde Eckert returns to the Lied Center Nov. 9-10 with his play "Horizon."

The performances will be at 7:30 p.m. both nights in the Lied Center's Johnny Carson Theater.

"Horizon" had its world premiere at the Lied Center in November 2005. The Lied Center for Performing Arts is the lead commissioner of this project along with the Mondavi Center at the University of California, Davis; the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center at the University of Maryland; and Arts AND Cultural Programming at Montclair State University, New Jersey.

"Horizon" is the story of Reinhart Poole, a theologian facing a crisis of faith. His teaching methods and provocative Biblical questions have landed him in trouble with the seminary, leading him to question his service. "Horizon" takes the audience through the night Reinhart prepares his final lecture. As he recalls past conversations, ponders the present, and imagines himself teaching, Reinhart's story examines philosophical and spiritual issues such as sin and redemption and questioning versus blind faith.

Much of "Horizon" was influenced by the Nebraska landscape, the horizon, that Eckert uses as a metaphor for the balance between the earth and air, physical and spiritual.

Tickets for this performance are $30. Students with a valid NCard and individuals 18 and younger may purchase tickets for half price. For more information, go online to www.liedcenter.org or call 472-4747.
