REDESIGNED HOLLOW

Jerry Van Ackeren, union manager, turns on the flat-screen television in the East Union's "Hollow" during an Aug. 27 grand opening. The Hollow - a student lounge - was designed to create two functioning spaces, one a study area with high-back booths and a mini-amphitheater with a 50-inch plasma television. The newly renovated lounge was designed by UNL interior design students. The winning design was submitted by recent graduates Steve Barden, Meghan McCluskey and Melissa Strickland.
