Monks to begin sand painting Nov. 2 at the Lentz Center

Buddhist monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery in Tibet return to UNL's Lentz Center for Asian Culture Nov. 2-6 to construct a mandala sand painting.

Monks from Drepung Loseling Monastery have created mandala sand paintings in more than 100 museums, art centers, colleges and universities in the United States and Europe.

The opening ceremony for the exhibition is noon Nov. 2 at the Lentz Center. The exhibition is free and open to the public.

The monks will construct the mandala from noon to 7 p.m. Nov. 2, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nov. 3-5 and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Nov. 6. A closing ceremony is scheduled to begin at noon Nov. 6 and during the ceremony, the monks will destroy the sand painting.
