Vintage action adventure posters from Cinema 16 collection featured

Vintage posters from feature length classic action/adventure films are on display in the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center.

The posters - part of the Jerry Jensen Cinema 16 collection - include art from 20 films, including "Lawrence of Arabia," "The Golden Voyage of Sinbad," "Buck Rodgers," "Moonraker" and "Flash Gordon."

The display is the continuation of a year-long exhibition of posters, or one-sheets, from the Jensen Collection. The exhibition rotates every four to six months, offering an in-depth look at the collection.

The vintage posters are from the 1940s to 1960s and were collected by Jensen. After an introduction to the Ross, Jensen became a board member of the Friends of the Mary Riepma Ross Film Theater.

When Jensen learned that plans for the Ross' new facility included a film storage vault (for UNL's film study collection), he donated his Cinema 16 collection to the Ross for its use and preservation.

The Jensen Cinema 16 Collection contains "one sheet" posters from 805 different movies, "three sheets" from 131 movies, and "half sheets" from 169 movies. There are numerous duplicates of many of the posters. This portion of the collection has been valued at more than $100,000. The collection also contains press kits or press books from 592 movies, 434 lobby cards, and sets of stills from 558 movies.

Jensen has also donated over 800 16mm format feature length films ranging from the silent days to the mid 80s as well as many short subjects and cartoons to the Ross.

Since their acqusition, they have been utilized for free-to-the-public, outdoor screenings on nights during the summers called the Movies on the Green series. They have also been used extensively by the UNL's Film Studies program.

The collection is named after Jensen's own 16mm film rental company, Jensen's Cinema 16. He operated the company for almost 20 years, suppying films to schools, churches and community groups.

Jensen, who lived in Omaha when he was involved with the Friends of the Ross, now lives in Hallandale, Fla. Jensen owns and operates a consulting firm and is active as a director and actor with several theatres.
