Howe worked for eight years as assistant dean for business and finance in the College of Arts and Sciences.He retired from UNL for health reasons in July 2008. Learn more about Howe here.
Howe is survived by his wife, Elizabeth (Betsy); son, Robert Martin II and wife, Amanda of Erie, Colo.; daughter, Bernadine Kappel and husband, Dave, two grandchildren, Bailey and Jacob of Fort Riley, Kan.; daughters, Lara Wooley, two grandchildren, Terrell and Taye of Erie, Colo.; Karoline Neil and husband, Jim, three grandchildren, Brody, Kiran and Maira of Casper, Wyo.; Amanda Wyatt and husband, Jared of Grant, Neb.; sons: Alan Gertonson and wife, Robin, three grandchildren, Alec, Aaron, and Ashley of Amarillo, Texas; Peter Gertonson of Golden, Colo.; six brothers and sisters; many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Etta Howe; two brothers.
A wake/celebration of life is 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Butherus, Maser and Love Funeral Home, 4040 A St. Funeral services are 2 p.m. Feb. 8 at the Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the funeral home.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers or plants, donations be made in care of the family to be designated at a later time to organizations such as the Alzhiemer’s Association. Condolences may also be left online to www.bmlfh.com.
