Gates Foundation rep to discuss strategic philanthropy April 9

Prabhu Pingali, head of the foundation’s agricultural policy and statistics program, will present the seminar “International Agriculture Development: The Role of Strategic Philanthropy” at 2:30 p.m. in the East Union.
Pingali defines strategic philanthropy as voluntary targeted efforts designed to achieve long-term societal goals. Strategic philanthropy now accounts for a significant share of the developing world’s agricultural research and development support.
The seminar is part of the Filley-Garey public lecture, funded by the family of H. Clyde Filley, the first chairman of the Department of Agricultural Economics. The building that houses the department is named after Filley.
A reception will follow the seminar.
