Swingle Singers swing into Lied

The Swingle Singers will bring their brand of a cappella music to the Lied Center with a 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 performance.

The Swingle Singers perform a repertoire that encompasses contemporary opera, jazz standards, film and television soundtracks, pop and folk tunes, and instrumental classics. For this performance, The Swingle Singers will perform tunes ranging from Bach to Sondheim to Lennon/McCartney. They will be joined by the University Singers, led by Peter Eklund, for two numbers: Straighten Up and Fly Right by Nat King Cole and Irving Mills and The Lady is a Tramp by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart.

In addition to performing more than 3,500 concerts around the world since the group was formed by Ward Swingle in 1963, The Swingle Singers have toured with orchestras and opera, ballet and contemporary dance companies. They have recorded 47 albums and received five Grammy Awards.

Eklund, assistant professor at the School of Music, will give a talk 30 minutes before curtain in the Lied Center Steinhart Room.

Tickets are $28, $23, and $18; tickets are half-price for college students and those 18 and under. Call the Lied box office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231 for tickets.
