Free at 6 series opens with modern dance troupe

This month the Lied Center for Performing Arts will begin a new series, Free at 6, to create awareness of local artists and provide free arts events.

The first Free at 6 event will be a performance by the Lincoln Contemporary Dance Project at 6 p.m. Nov. 16 in the Johnny Carson Theater.

The Lincoln Contemporary Dance Project was formed from local dancers who decided to create a modern dance troupe in Lincoln. The troupe's 12 members perform a mix of contemporary dance. The dancers and choreographers of the group have trained and performed with professional groups including Danzarte, Bill T. Jones and The Martha Graham School.

Upcoming Free at 6 performances include The New Music Agency (contemporary chamber music); John and Jason Shaw (old-time fiddle music, bluegrass, jazz); Jim Rice and Final Round (original country music); and The Bathtub Dogs (all-male contemporary a cappella).
