Theatre presents 'House of Blue Leaves'

UNL Theatre's University Theatre completes its fall season with John Guare's dark comedy The House of Blue Leaves, directed by guest artist Gil Lazier. A sneak preview performance will begin at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 17, with regular performances at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18-20 and Dec. 1-4. All performances are in Howell Theatre in the Temple Building.

The House of Blue Leaves is set on Oct. 4, 1965, the day the Pope first visited New York City. Through the story of Artie Shaughnessy, his wife, his mistress and his celebrity-hungry son Ronnie, the play studies how people expect miracles from celebrity and the dark side of the American dream.

Lazier is dean emeritus of the Florida State University School of Theatre. For the past three years he was director of the FSU/Asolo MFA Conservatory for Actor Training in Sarasota. He has directed many productions in the United States and abroad. In Moscow, his production of Neil Simon's I Ought To Be In Pictures played for more than 10 years in Russian.

Tickets are available at the Lied Center ticket office and one hour before performance in the Howell Theatre lobby. Call the ticket office at 472-4747 or (800) 432-3231. Tickets are $14; $12 faculty/staff/senior citizens; $10 student. Tickets for the sneak preview are $5 at the door. For information, call 472-1619.
