Premiere of Pure Sweet Hell Feb. 11 at Ross
Filmmaker and co-director, Brian Vernor, will be on hand to introduce the midwest premiere of Pure Sweet Hell at the Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center at 7 p.m. Feb. 11. A reception will follow at Bricktop, 1427 O St.
Pure Sweet Hell, a documentary by Vernor and Willie Bullion, explores the passion, pain, and pleasure of cyclocross racing, while providing an intimate view of the kinship and clashes that comprise this unique "discipline" of cycling.
Through creative cinematography and eclectic, original music, this hour-long film captures the essence of what makes cyclocross, its culture, and its community such a distinctive movement.
Pure Sweet Hell features footage from the last three cyclocross seasons all over the United States. Shot on location in North American cyclocross strongholds such as Portland, Gloucester, Napa, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Tacoma, and Olympia, and featuring sport luminaries Justin Robinson, Gina Hall, Barry Wicks, Rick Hunter, Bob Leibold, Thomas Frischknecht, Mike Ferrentino, and Jeff Clark, the film's aim, as Vernor explains, is to "educate people who don't already know about the sport, and . . . reflect American cyclocross racing as we see it: a contradiction of pain and goodness, which just isn't for everyone."
The ticket price is $5 and includes an evening of music at Bricktop, featuring the local bluegrass of The Flatwater Boys.
Tickets will be available at: Monkey Wrench Cycles, 1225 P St., Suite A; Bike Pedalers, 1353 S. 33rd St.; Lincoln Bicycle Co., 1401 Pine Lake Rd.; Cycle Works, 720 N 27th St.; and Blues Bike and Fitness, 3331 Pioneers Blvd.
A portion of the proceeds from the tickets will go to benefit The Great Plains Trails Network and The Becca Wilkins Wellness Fund.
