Academy of St. Martin in the Fields returns to Lied
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields will perform at the Lied Center for Performing Arts, 7:30 p.m. March 4.

| The performance is part of the British Festival series hosted by the Lied Center.
Joined by violinist Gil Shaham (who serves as conductor and soloist), the Academy will perform Variations on a Theme of Tchaikovsky, Op. 35a by Anton Arensky; Violin Concerto No. 5 in A major, K 219, "Tukish," by Mozart; and "Souvenir de Florence," in D major, Op. 70 by Tchaikovsky.
William Stibor of NET Radio will give a pre-performance talk 7 p.m. in the Lied's Steinhart room. Seating is limited.
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields was formed in 1958 as a small, conductorless chamber orchestra. Led by Neville Marriner, the Academy attracted some of the finest musicians in London. The Academy gave its first professional concert at St. Martin-in-the-Fields church in November 1959.
The Academy of St. Martin in the Fields is the most recorded chamber orchestra in the world, with a discography of over 500 works.
Ticket prices to the Academy's performance are $50, $45 and $40; half price for UNL students with a valid NCard and youth 18 and younger.
