Franco replaced James Griesen, who retired June 30 after holding the post since 1986.

"I am delighted to have the opportunity to join the UNL community," Franco said. "I look forward to working with Chancellor Perlman and the students, staff and administrators of the university."

Franco served as vice president for student services and professor of psychology at Utah State since May 2003.

Griesen continues to serve UNL students. He returned to the classroom in August as an educational administration professor.
