John Slade delivered "Martin Luther King Jr.: The Man and His Message" during the Chancellor's Program Jan. 16.

Slade was a founding member of Iota Phi Theta fraternity while an undergraduate student in 1963 at Morgan State College (now Morgan State University) in Baltimore. The nationally incorporated fraternity consists of more than 100 undergraduate and alumni chapters, with nearly 15,000 members in 25 states and the District of Columbia. It is the nation's fifth largest, predominantly African American social service fraternity.

During the program, Chancellor Harvey Perlman presented the 2006 Chancellor's "Fulfilling the Dream" awards to Amber Hunter, coordinator for multicultural student recruitment in Admissions, and Larry Williams, director of the Lincoln Commission on Human Rights. The award was established in 1997 to honor individuals who have contributed to the UNL community or the wider Lincoln community by action in promoting the goals and vision of Martin Luther King Jr.
