White to open Jazz In June

A campus talent will open the 17th season of Jazz in June.

Darryl White, associate professor of trumpet at UNL, will lead the Darryl White Group in the Jazz in June season opening performance at 7 p.m. June 3. The performance will include pieces ranging from classical standards by Miles Davis and Thelonius Monk to White's own compositions.

White has been playing the horn since age 10. While training as a classical musician, White found his passion in jazz. His experiences include a wide range of idioms, including guest soloist with the Omaha Symphony, the Lake Forest Chamber Orchestra, and a variety of venues, including the American Jazz Museum in Kansas City and Nebraska's statewide NET Radio.

White's albums include "In the Fullness of Time and Ancient Memories," and his 2007 release "Resonance" with recording artist Art Lande.
