Sleeping Beauty on stage

The Utah-based Ballet West will perform The Sleeping Beauty at 7:30 p.m. March 3 in the Lied Center for Performing Arts.

The story of The Sleeping Beauty is taken from the Perrault fairy tale in which Princess Aurora is cursed so that when she turns 16 and pricks her finger, she falls into a deep sleep. The spell is broken 100 years later with a kiss from a prince.

Ballet West originated in Salt Lake City in 1963 as the Utah Civic Ballet. In 1968, the Federation of Rocky Mountain States chose the Utah Civic Ballet to represent the west and the company was renamed Ballet West.

Lisa Fusillo, UNL professor of dance, will give a lecture 30 minutes before the performance in the Lied’s Steinhart Room.

Tickets for this performance are $38, $34 and $28. Call the Lied box office at 472-4747 for tickets.
