Yiqi Yang, a UNL textile scientist, displays a sweater made of yarn produced from cornhusks. He has developed a process to convert cornhusks into strong textile fibers. The process is still being developed but is efficient and inexpensive. If it's commercialized someday, it could boost the value of Nebraska's leading crop, Yang says. IANR photo.

Jazz in June to brighten Tuesdays
The annual Jazz in June concerts featuring great jazz and food will be offered this summer at the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery’s Sculpture Garden.

First Friday is May 7 at Sheldon
The Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery will offer the May First Friday Celebration from 5-7 p.m. May 7 at the gallery. The event will include a treasure hunt, an hors d’oeuvres reception, live music and a cash bar. The event is free, and door prizes will be handed out throughout the event. A gallery walk of art galleries in the Haymarket will begin at 7 p.m.

Special Lost Boys viewing May 11
The Mary Riepma Ross Media Arts Center will offer a special screening of Lost Boys of Sudan at 7 p.m. May 11. Proceeds will go to Lutheran Family Services’ Heartland Refugee Resettlement program that supports the local settlement of “Lost Boys of Sudan” in Lincoln.
