UNL is a home for all things Lewis and Clark

For Lewis and Clark buffs, UNL provides a host of publications, events and experts. The expedition's bicentennial has put UNL in the spotlight in the journey's commemoration.

• The University of Nebraska Press is a leading publisher of Lewis and Clark literature, including Professor Gary Moulton's 13-volume series of the Journals of Lewis and Clark and the newly released single volume condensing the journals.

• Robert Diffendal Jr., a retired UNL geologist, and his wife, Anne, have written two books on the Great Plains sites of geologic interest that Lewis and Clark described in their journals: Lewis and Clark and the Geology of the Great Plains and Lewis and Clark and the Geology of Nebraska and Adjacent States.

• UNL faculty also figured in Nebraska's Bicentennial Signature event from July 31-Aug. 3 in Omaha. The Nebraska Repertory Theatre's executive director, Jeffrey Elwell, produced and directed the play Ink and Elkskin. The event also featured the premiere of the second movement of a commissioned piano work by composer Philip Glass. The piece featured UNL pianist Paul Barnes; the concerto will premiere Sept. 18 in Lincoln.
