Statewide looks at meth use in Nebraska

This week on Statewide, the Nebraska ETV Network's award-winning weekly news journal, the program investigates the growing use of methamphetamine, or meth, in Nebraska. This episode of Statewide will air at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 18.

Methamphetamine speeds up the brain and gives the user an intense high. It is produced as pills, powders or chunky crystals called "ice" and can be swallowed, inhaled, smoked or injected. Reporter Mike Tobias will examine ice, a more pure form of methamphetamine that is becoming popular in the state. Law enforcement authorities say they're finding more ice in Nebraska, most of it being brought in from other states and Mexico.

In another segment, reporter Perry Stoner brings viewers the story of a recovering meth addict who was recently released from prison. She served time for meth possession, and says the treatment she received in prison may have saved her life. Stoner will also explain more about meth and offer perspective on why so many people are choosing to use it.

Statewide repeats on NETV Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at noon. It repeats on NETV2 Saturdays at 9:30 p.m., Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and Tuesdays at 1:30 p.m.
