Lux center designs new exhibition format

A new exhibition format has been launched at the Lux Center for the Arts. Every other month, new artists are featured in the main and east gallery showrooms. Unlike traditional exhibitions, work in these galleries may be purchased and taken home during the exhibition while new work is rotated into place. First Fridays begin at the Lux from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

On alternate months, the Folsom Gallery features solo exhibitions presented in the traditional manner. Each of the galleries' exhibitions are on display for two months. The current Folsom Gallery exhibition, "Clouds and Stone," photographs by Dana Fritz, continues through March 31.

Also on display in a special mixed media exhibition at the Lux Center through April are UNL's Barbara Trout and Melinda Yale.

Trout, an associate professor in the Department of Clothing, Textiles and Design, is exhibiting small fiber vessels that explore the idea of containment. Her scholarly interests lie in the area of apparel design, but she is also interested in basket weaving traditions of Native America and Japan.

Yale, a printmaker and Master of Fine Arts candidate, uses graphic art to communicate humor as a tool for dealing with anxieties of a complex world. She is from Duluth, Minn.

Admission to the Lux Center, 2601 N. 48th St., is free. Hours are Tuesday through Friday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and first Friday of each month, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
