Classical guitarist to perform March 13

Czech classical guitarist Vladislav Blaha, who has won four international guitar competitions in Europe, will perform March 13 at UNL.

Blaha's concert will begin at 7 p.m. in the Wick Alumni Center. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for students. Tickets may be ordered by calling Mila Saskova-Pierce, associate professor of modern languages and literatures, at 472-1336.

Blaha has performed in most European counties as well as the United States, Asia, Japan, Central and South America and Mexico. His current tour includes eight performances in the U.S. Midwest; two in Florida, including the Miami Guitar Festival; Cuba; Mexico; and Venezuela.

Blaha has released various CD, radio and television recordings. Twenty-seven composers from 16 countries have dedicated works to him.

He is professor of guitar and head of guitar studies at the Brno Conservatoire in the Czech Republic. He frequently gives master's classes and performs in international festivals. Blaha is president of the Czech Classical Guitar Society and since 1992 is director of the International Guitar Festival and Courses in Brno.
